Lathes are one the fundamental machining tools. They are used for a variety of tasks, including turning threads, bar stock, gears, other machine tools, and almost anything imaginable.


Come and enjoy our introductory lathe class, where you'll learn the following skills:


1.) Types and shapes of cutters

2.) Basic cutter sharpening

3.) How to load parts into the chuck

4.) How to position the cutter in reference to the part

5.) Spindle speed adjustment

6.) How to use gauges on lathe carriages

7.) Chip safety

About the Instructor: 
Ryan Kidder is a Machining and Welding instructor with over 20 years of on-the-job experience. He started welding and machining in high school R&D shop and has continued developing and adding new skills ever since. He is a certified welder for Caterpillar, Volvo, and Cummins, and has instructed in Mig, Tig, Arc, and Oxy-fuel welding & Cutting, along with many other shop machinery such as Mills, Lathes, Drills, Saws, Air tools and other types of machines. In his spare time, Ryan works in his own shop on custom machinery that might one day be mass-produced for sale to the general public.

In order to provide the best instructional experience to our members, the session is limited to the first 8 participants to register.
